Banksy's Influences - Who Inspired Banksy?

Banksy is a pseudo-name for a well-known British graffiti artist. He is believed to be born around 1974 in Yate, South Gloucestershire. He was first involved in graffiti during the great Bristol aerosol boom on the late 1980s. The style of his artwork is mostly satirical piece on topics such as culture, ethnic, and politics. Technique wise, the way he combines both stencil and graffiti is very similar to a French artist Blek Le Rat. His art that appear in cities around the world was first born out of Bristol underground scene involving musicians and artists. His prints are popular with celebrity and singer Christina Aguilera and actor Brad Pitt.
When it started, Blek Le Rat took inspiration from New York's graffiti scenes. It is from this scene that he created his own style by continuously painting stenciled rats around the streets in Paris before going nationwide to Lyon, Marseille and Toulouse.
Banksy has also recognized Blek Le Rat influences in his artwork while also being a big fan of Blek's work. In one of his quote, Banksy said "Every time I think I've painted something slightly original, I find out that Blek Le Rat has done it as well, only twenty years earlier."
On the other hand, Prou admitted that he sees Banksy as a son of his movement in addition to crediting Blanksy for raising his profile while providing him with increased publication that resulted in increased commercial success. In his interview with Sunday Times, Prou said "I consider him like my descendant. He took some ideas. But he changed them. And he took the movement to a huge level all over the world."

How to Draw Cool Graffiti Art
Learning to draw great graffiti art requires lots of skill and practice. There are several genres of graffiti art, but usually, graffiti art will mostly:

-- be painted in vivid colors, to create emotive images and grab attention

-- include graffiti style lettering with letters that overlap and are drawn in 3D

In particular the use of the bold style lettering is really distinctive to graffiti art. The images themselves will usually be hard hitting, and be painted in stark colors utilizing strong shadows and outlines to add depth and definition. Images usually depict social or political issues close to the artist's heart.

Before you start a piece of graffiti art, you should draw a small scale version of the large piece you want to create first, then when you begin your actual piece, its a simple task of just scaling up your graffiti sketch.

If you need ideas for a graffiti font to use, there are plenty of sites online that have examples for you to copy. For the outlines, use a fine marker pen. In order to produce a 3D effect, shade around the letters you've outlined with a different color. Then use permanent markers to color in your letters.

Once you are ready to paint your sketch on to your larger canvas or wall, you need to draw a reference grid over your small drawing. Sketch a full size replica of the grid on to your wall or canvas that you are using for your scaled up graffiti piece. Use either chalk, charcoal or diluted paint to draw the large grid. To make marking the grid out easier, the simplest thing to do is to use a piece of string.

GRAFFITI PASTA

GRAFFITI PASTA
This writing is a whimsical indulgence for me. I have much work ahead, most of it school, the rest a typical weekly retinue of postings/responses to my personal Social Media campaign. But in this moment, it is the very early part of the day's beginning, I have a full belly, and the medications I took before eating are working their magic, making me feel (almost) human (for the sake of clarity, I should note that these drugs are far from recreational, and only just therapeutic; unless one finds it desirable to feel as though they are experiencing a 3 second time-delay of everything happening around them, they are to be avoided unless prescribed - I suffer from psychosis, bi-polar syndrome, and must choose between being bug-nuts or zombified - typically, it is the latter). I therefore give flight to my creative muse, and ponder the above question - why do we love Social Media?

FREE PALESTINE

The Land and People of Free Palestine
Many of the Palestinians of the Middle East consider the region of Palestine to be "occupied" and renamed as Israel. To them it is the land of Free Palestine. They are the indigenous people of this ancient land. Human remains have been found there dating back to 6,000 B.C.! In Jericho, the earliest communities date back many thousands of years in the place once known as the land of Canaan. Free Palestine lies on the western side of Asia. The country is bordered by Lebanon and Syria. On the west side of Palestine lays the Mediterranean Sea. Jordan lies to the East and the Gulf of Aqaba and the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula to the south. It is populated by a people who are mostly Muslims, yet are religiously diverse to include Christian, Jewish, and Druze neighbors. Most Palestinians are multi-lingual. They speak English, Hebrew and French. Arabic is the official language.
Today the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is what defines the situation for the people of Free Palestine. This issue is volatile. No other single issue has ever generated more United Nations resolutions than this one. Indeed, this struggle between the Israelis and the Palestinians is one of the most explosive and long lasting conflicts in all of history. After the fall of the Ottoman Empire following World War One, Palestine came under western occupation as a result of a "Mandate" of British design. This mandate imposed political and geographical controls over a region that had not seen such things for more than 2.000 years. The resulting political upheaval gave rise to the Palestine Liberation Organization or the PLO. The PLO has been internationally recognized by most governments since 1974. Israel, the United States and some of its allies do not recognize the PLO as a legitimate representative of the Palestinian people. These discrepancies are the source of much political unrest in the region of Free Palestine.

Methods to Crack Down on Graffiti

Graffiti is a big problem in towns and cities across the UK and there have been many attempts to prevent the recurring problem. The main issue is the divide in public opinion as to whether graffiti is an art or a crime. Many public authorities see it as a crime as it is defacing public property whereas some local residents enjoy the street art. Here are a few ideas towns and cities have come up with to try and conquer graffiti artists.
East Cambridgeshire District Council recently released new portable 'graffiti removal kits' to be the forefront of their campaign to rid the district of graffiti. The Council are hoping the kits will enable graffiti to be removed before it's even seen by the public.
Councillor Tony Parramint said: "The portable kits are simple to use and highly effective so we are very pleased to offer them to Parish Councils in our district and provide them with training."
Removing graffiti quickly contributes to a reduced fear of crime in an area, as it reduces the likelihood of a place looking rundown. We all want East Cambridgeshire to look as good as possible and these kits will help to make a real difference."
The new kits cost £1500 and were paid for by a grant from the Accelerated Neighbourhood Partnership Fund. They will be available to every parish and town council within the district. Schemes like this have been trialled in the UK before in places such as London, Bristol and Brighton. They have been a proven success. East Cambridgeshire Council hope that they can cut the use of community service workers whom they employ once a week to remove graffiti.
The kits contain non hazardous chemicals that are fruit based to quickly remove graffiti. It is hoped that the quick removal of graffiti will deter repeat offenders to continue their graffiti splurges. Other councils across the UK have reacted in a different way by applying anti graffiti coatings and anti graffiti paint to public areas which is also a proven success. These councils have employed commercial cleaning services to cover particularly bad areas that also suffer from littering. London has regularly used street cleaning services in an attempt for cleaner streets.
